DESCRIPTION: \n“Online editing services: do they have a place in your clien
 t portfolio?”\n12 April 2019\, 18.30-20.30 (doors open at 18.00)\nInstead
of hiring freelance SENSE members to edit their texts\, some Dutch scholar
s and scientists choose to use one of the many online editing agencies\, s
uch as those promoted on the websites of journal publishers like Elsevier
and Springer Nature. In this UniSIG meeting\, which has been scheduled for
the early evening\, we’ll exchange views and experiences about working fo
r such agencies. The scene will be set by SENSE member Curtis Barrett\, wh
o will give a short presentation in which he’ll share the insights and exp
eriences he gained from working for one of the largest international onlin
e science editing agencies\, where he cut his teeth as a beginning editor.
He will also talk about why he stopped working for agencies\, and how you
can tell when it’s time to leave the relative safety of an agency and str
ike out on your own. If anyone else would also like to reserve a slot to t
alk about their experiences\, please let me know – otherwise\, we’ll simpl
y let the discussion develop spontaneously.\nAs usual\, the meeting will s
egue into Dutch-treat social networking downstairs in the hotel bar.\nAll
SENSE members are welcome to attend the meeting. To register\, please clic
k on the Register button at the top of this page.\nI look forward to seein
 g you in April.\nJoy Burrough-Boenisch (UniSIG convener)\n https://www.sen
