DESCRIPTION:The topic for this meeting of the SENSE Ed SIG is Online Resour
ces for Academic Writing.\nCurrently the internet abounds with websites fo
r learning English\, and for mastering academic English in particular. For
the most part\, this is a very positive development\, but the sheer numbe
r and diversity of the available websites can be overwhelming. What is mor
e\, the choice of website needs to be tailored to learners’ individual nee
ds\, and they also vary sharply in quality\, so the choice is no easy matt
er.\nDuring this session\, we’ll take a look at a number of the leading we
bsites for academic writing and put them under the magnifying glass. What
are their strengths and disadvantages? How effective do you think they wou
ld be as a teaching tool for your own students? Be prepared to be subjecte
d to a couple of quizzes yourselves along the way. For maximum benefit\, y
ou should bring your own laptop or tablet with you to the session\, charge
d and ready. If any of you have favorite websites of your own that you wou
ld like to have discussed\, please let me know so that I can be sure to le
ave space for you.\nIf you plan to attend\, please register directly for t
he event by clicking the ‘Register button’ at the top of this page. Se7en
is a short walk from Utrecht Central Station. The meeting will take place
upstairs (check the screens as you enter)\, and a table will be reserved f
or us to have a drink together downstairs after the meeting concludes. htt
