DESCRIPTION:Our first UniSIG meeting of 2022 features as speaker Linda Jayn
e Turner\, a British editor and translator based in Prague. She focuses ma
inly on editing academic articles and books written in English\, primarily
by non-native speakers\, helping these authors get their research publish
ed internationally. The majority of her clients are universities and resea
rch institutes alongside selected corporate and individual clients based i
 n Germany\, Switzerland\, the Czech Republic\, Poland and Italy\, among ot
hers. Her main areas of specialization are social sciences\, environment\,
economics\, the history of science\, and Irish studies.\nIn her talk\, Li
nda will begin by explaining how she got into this line of work and first
connected with the authors she edits. She will then speak briefly about th
e authors themselves and the type of texts she works on\, comparing her cl
ients in Germany with those in the Czech Republic. Linda will then touch o
n the thorny issue of university administration\, sharing a few anecdotes
about the red tape she has encountered when dealing with these institution
s\, particularly those in Germany. Finally\, Linda will sum up her differe
nt experiences of editing for universities and research institutes in Germ
any and the Czech Republic\, opening up a discussion on academic editing a
t large and how her work compares to that of SENSE members editing for res
earchers in the Netherlands.\nThis online event will take place on Friday
