 at we can attract speakers (and attendees) from outside our usual catchmen
 t area. We are therefore very pleased that SENSE member and freelance acad
 emic editor Dr Claire Bacon has agreed to join us from her home in Germany
  to talk about her experience writing a blog and how it helped her expand 
 her client base. Claire will give a short talk followed by a discussion am
 ong attendees. Here's a taster:\n'Blogging is an excellent way to attract 
 the clients you want and to establish knowledge and competence in your fie
 ld. Sharing useful content in blog articles can convince potential clients
  that you are the best person for the job and can gain you credibility wit
 h your peers. But despite these benefits\, many small business owners don’
 t blog because they don’t know what they should write about.\nIn my talk\,
  I hope to inspire you to try your hand at blogging by sharing how bloggin
 g helped me to build up my editing business and get new clients that I rea
 lly wanted to work with. To get you started\, I will describe an easy appr
 oach to successful blogging that focuses on solving your client’s problems
 . To help you keep your blog running\, I will give tips on planning your c
 ontent. And to make sure people read your posts\, I will talk about sharin
 g and promoting your content.\nThe goal of my talk is to convince you that
  you have something useful to say and to help you create a blog that works
  for you and your business.'\nClaire is a former research scientist with p
 rofessional qualifications in copy editing and medical editing. She edits 
 research papers for non-native English-speaking scientists and works as a 
 copy editor for Springer Nature. She publishes a monthly blog to help her 
 clients with their research writing and is a member of the SENSE content t
