DESCRIPTION:The thinking behind the words\nChris Baylis\, the Netherlands\n
Copywriting is: The clear. The funny. The charming. The persuasive. The ge
nuine. The moving. The logical. The intelligent. The provocative. The thou
ghtful. \nA copywriter knows which approach to use\, and when. A copywrite
r knows this because they have understood the strategy\, they’ve had an id
ea\, and then chosen the right words. \nIn this interactive workshop\, we’
ll explore how to approach strategy\, how to have an idea and then how to
approach the copy itself. We won’t be talking about grammar\, structure or
any of that. Copywriting is imagination and bravery. For the rest\, there
 ’s spellcheck. \nAbout the presenter\n \nChris Baylis - Creative Director
and Copywriter An international\, award-winning creative leader and storyt
eller\, with 20 years experience in advertising\, innovation and branding.
I help brands find their purpose\, voice and organizing narrative - conne

 d marketing. \nChris has led network agencies\, worked client-side as a co
pywriter and creative director\, helped many of his own clients find their
voice\, define their brand and reach their audience\, and he has mentored
and helped many start-ups. Chris taught and lectured at Miami ad-school\,
Cannes Lions and Eurobest ad festivals. Some of his work is here.\n \nThe

DESCRIPTION:'An ethical issue in published scientific articles: how editors
can help solve it and increase their value to their clients'A short talk
by SENSE member Ed Hull\, followed by discussionAs Ed sees it\, the proble
m is that if readers – including peer reviewers – do not understand the cr
edibility and relevance of a study\, they will question its validity. Even
worse\, if such articles get published\, they may mislead users/readers.
And since misunderstanding could lead to clinical and other decision error
s in health-related fields\, ensuring that a scientific article is credibl
e is an ethical issue. Before the meeting\, participants will be sent a han
dout listing specific items that editors should be aware of. Using the lis
t\, Ed will point out what items language editors should be aware of and\,
if necessary\, discuss with their clients. The items are pieces of conten
t that are (usually) already in the manuscript. Improving credibility in t
he eyes of the reader only requires rearranging these pieces of content\,
not adding or changing content. By ensuring that manuscripts are more tran
sparent\, editors can make the life of the peer reviewer much easier.Ed no
tes that the two purposes of his short talk are- to present a list of item
s that are necessary in a manuscript for readers to understand the credibi
lity and relevance of the study and- to stimulate discussion on the list a
nd how to advise authors on the added value of improving the reader-percei
ved credibility and relevance.During our plenary discussion\, we will brai
nstorm on how to advise authors “gently” but effectively on this. He warns
that “We do not want to step on toes!”.Click 'register' at the top of thi
s page to register for this one-hour online meeting\, which will take plac
e on Friday 18 September from 14.00h. Registration will close at 09.00h on
17 September and registered participants will be emailed Ed's handout and
