DESCRIPTION:Although notaries public operate in common-law jurisdictions\,
the Dutch civil-law notary has different duties.\nThey occupy a much more
important place in the legal hierarchy. And\, as many of us know\, that me
ans that civil-law notaries and/or their clients often need the services o
f editors and translators. So\, a description of what they do is more than
useful.\nWe’re grateful that Meester René van Kaam\, a Dutch civil-law no
tary with 17 years’ experience and practicing in Someren\, North Brabant\,
has kindly agreed to talk to\, and answer questions from\, a FINLEGSIG au
dience on the subject of\nWat een notaris doet\nRené will give his talk in
Dutch. \nAll are welcome but … there’s only space for 12 people. So pleas
e advise John Hynd johnedmund51@gmail.com by end Sunday October 21st at th
e latest if you’re planning to come. Wine and modest nibbles will be serve
d\, of course. \nThe exact address is Minervalaan 42/2\, 1077PB Amsterdam.
Unless the weather is foul\, or walking isn’t your thing\, the simplest w
ay\, if you’re coming from Amsterdam-Zuid railway station\, is to walk str
aight up the Minervalaan into town towards the Hilton Hotel and\, after ab
out 15 minutes\, you’ll find it on your left.\nNB: We hope shortly to anno
unce an event more specifically designed for financial translators and edi
tors\, also to take place this autumn.\nJohn Alexander & John Hynd\, conve
