In this meeting, we'll consider genres (i.e. text types) other than research articles (RAs) that our clients in academia use. To get us thinking about the challenges these genres pose to our clients and to us as English-language professionals, in the first part of the meeting SENSE member Maria Sherwood-Smith will repeat the presentation she gave in June 2018 at the SENSE conference, titled “Outreach and research communication in English: Opportunities for language professionals”. Her full conference abstract is available here (scroll down to Sunday 10 June, 11.20-12.00). In the second part of the meeting, we’ll discuss non-RA assignments we’ve dealt with.
The earlier start means that as well as the option of adjourning to the bar for drinks, socializing and networking after the meeting, there will also be the option of staying on for a meal. Decide on the day but remember that drinks and the meal will both be at your expense.
