What is SENSE, and what does SENSE do?

SENSE is a society for English-language professionals based in the Netherlands. We are a community of language workers who work from or into English, with a connection to the Netherlands.

Attend informal get-togethers

SENSE regularly hosts meetings (SIGs) for members based on region or special interest. These meetings can be in person or online.

Forum for members only

SENSE's web forum is where members can post questions, give answers, and chat with other members. There is also a jobs category where jobs are posted from potential clients who visited the SENSE website.

Get a mentor to guide you

SENSE has a mentoring programme whereby experienced SENSE members can help inexperienced members for a small fee (subsidized by SENSE).

SENSE members are encouraged to make contact with other members. That is what being in a society is all about. All SENSE members can search for or browse the list of current SENSE members.

Read our regular blog

SENSE members and guest authors post meeting reports and interesting articles on the SENSE Blog. It also represents an opportunity to budding copywriters to get their name on screen.

Q&A with Dave van den Akker: Working with Translation Agencies

Q&A with Dave van den Akker: Working with Translation Agencies

During this online Q&A, Dave van den Akker will answer questions about working with translation agencies. How does a translation agency operate? What makes for a good collaboration between agencies and translators? And what can you do to stand out as a freelance translator?

Dave owns and runs two translation agencies: LinQuake and Fiducia. He also focuses on researching, applying and bringing to market new technologies in the translation industry. Dave has a background in sales and client-facing roles. He started his own business years ago after having worked at one of the largest providers of translation and interpreting services in the Netherlands for some time. In 2018, he organised the annual Dutch National Translation Conference. As a true entrepreneur, Dave looked beyond LinQuake to harness new opportunities in the market. The launch of legal and financial translation company Fiducia in 2021 gave him the chance to put his ideas for a specialist language services provider into practice. Dave has served as the chair of VViN, the Dutch association of translation agencies, for some years now.

Participants will be eligible to receive 1 PE point for attending this talk. More info regarding PE points can be found here.
