Mini-workshop: Gearing up 2.0 - Practical tips to survive and thrive in the age of Gen AI

‘Gearing up 2.0 - Practical tips to survive and thrive in the age of Gen AI’
– facilitated by Jenny Zonneveld

The language profession is undergoing major changes, largely due to the advent of Generative AI. It’s affecting the whole profession, from editors to translators and from copywriters to proofreaders: Gen AI claims to have solutions for everyone, and many clients think they can manage without trained language professionals: we’ve all seen the results, some acceptable, some make us laugh.

It's quite easy to spot texts written or translated by AI. People who don’t know any better think these texts are ‘good to go’ and don’t even ask a professional linguist or native speaker to take a look. But we know that AI generated texts are repetitive, bland, and lack creative appeal, and that Gen AI translations are often inaccurate and inconsistent.

On the other hand, some Gen AI tools can save us time, just as our favourite editing and translation tools do. Despite these developments, there is still a huge market for us language professionals.

This mini workshop is designed for all language professionals at any stage of their career who want to survive and thrive in the age of Gen AI. We’ll look at the skills and qualities that language professionals need and the practical exercises will help you start adapting your working practices and business model. You will leave knowing how to continue moving your business forward.
