About Chris Durban

chris-durbanChris Durban is a writer and freelance translator based in Paris, where she specializes in translating business texts into English for demanding clients—the shareholders, customers and partners of a range of French corporations and institutions. For years Chris wrote “The Onionskin”, a client education column that ran in the ITI Bulletin (UK) and ATA Chronicle (US), and she continues to write the "Fire Ant & Worker Bee" advice column in Translation Journal. Chris regularly gives lectures/workshops on specialization and working with direct clients, and has published many articles. Most emphasize the benefits that accrue to both translators and clients when linguists take a proactive approach.  She is the author of “Translation, Getting it Right,” a 28-page guide for translation buyers that has been translated into 11 languages, and a new companion piece, “Interpreting, Getting it Right”. Every two years, Chris serves as co-organizer of the SFT’s Université d’été de la traduction financière, a three-day event especially for financial translators. She is a member of ATA and SFT, and a Fellow of ITI (UK). A past president of the SFT, Chris was awarded the ATA’s Gode Medal in 2001.
